Blow for HS2 eastern leg as National Infrastructure Commission lays out rail recommendations

Branch to Manchester recommended to be developed

Those lobbying for the eastern leg of HS2 to be delivered in full have been left disappointed, with the National Infrastructure Commission ruling it a lower priority than other projects.

This morning the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) published its final report on rail needs assessment for the Midlands and the North, revealing that it recommended pushing ahead with the western leg into Manchester ahead of the eastern leg to Leeds.
